Sheri
Thomas is a watercolour artist born and raised in St. John’s Newfoundland
with over 20 years of experience. Sheri’s work has been moulded by local
mentor and friend George Jarvis, as well as international artists Sterling
Edwards and Doug Mays.Much of her work portrays the natural beauty of
Newfoundland: the rugged coastlines, sweeping barrens, ancient rocks, and
thick forests while encompassing the harsh climate and way of life. Drawn
to the cleanness, movement and freedom of watercolour, this is Sheri’s
medium of choice. She believes her best pieces are created when she lets the
painting do the talking instead of some preconceived idea. Her pieces have
been hung at the Arts and Letters competitions at the Rooms and featured in
Springwater Production videos as well as found in local galleries and
private collections internationally. Her vision is “not to answer all the
questions for the viewer but to keep them searching, drawing on their own
memories and experiences to create something beautiful and meaningful just
for them”.
