"Women of Song"
Item# M-V2
$22.99
|
The character of Newfoundland Labrador
women was defined a long time ago by the women who took their
place alongside the men in doing all kinds of hard work to keep
and maintain a family life.
Many times and for long periods of time the men went away to
work and provide for their families and the women stayed at home
and took on the full responsibility for their homes and families.
Our women were very important in preserving the songs of their
homeland and the newfound songs they learned in their new land.
The women singers in Newfoundland Labrador are a very talented
group that can compare with the best anywhere in the world and we
are pleased to be able to present and showcase some of them for
you in this first in a series of CD’s titled “Newfoundland
Labrador Women Of Song”.

"Silly Songs"
Item# M-V3
$22.99
|
It seems in Newfoundland we can make up a
funny or silly song about anything. Poking fun at ourselves goes hand in
hand with everyday experiences.
It makes no difference whether the song is about a sheep “Aunt
Martha’s Sheep” and the fate that befell her. Wacky baccy “Eli’s
On The Weed” what happens when you really need a smoke. A cabin “Up
At The Cabin” aah.. the joy of having a few friends at the cabin.
“Peter Street” the story of a careless night on the town.
Everyone’s favorite “Cock A Doodle Do” nothing to do with you!
“Never Been There Before” people and places you go that you find you
like and then you keep going back. The outhouse “Good Old Newfie
Outhouse” cold nights and the joy of outdoor plumbing. A goat “Paddy
Mcginty’s Goat” and The Mobile Goat” ooh.. the havoc they can
bring. “Rubber Boots” and why you should be careful. Darts and darts
gone awry “Ladies Dart League Fight” A blackbird “Where Be The
Blackbird To? A tongue in cheek romp in the hay “Twice Daily”..
Always better than once.
It’s all here, real or implied! What’s life without humor?
Boring!
Selections Include: Rubber Boots • Mark Hiscock, Ladies Dart League
Fight • Peter Francis Quinlan, Aunt Martha’s Sheep • Dick Nolan,
Peter Street • Patrick Moran, Mark Hiscock, Mike Kinsella & Larry

"Homebrew 6"
Item# M-V10
$22.99
|
Following in the footsteps of the immensely
successful Homebrew 1 - 5 and (with total sales in excess of 50,000
units in Newfoundland and Labrador), Homebrew 6 is destined to be
even better.
Homebrew is a very successful concept that we have taken and turned
into a package of songs that you would hear on any of the traditional
shows that are on our local radio stations, and at kitchen parties all
over the province. The range of songs and artists on this CD reflects
the broad diversity of talent this province has to offer.
One of the songs on this CD was recorded specifically for this
package and is currently only available on this CD. Shanneyganock’s
version of the Jud Strunk song “ A Daisy A Day” was popular in the
mid 70’s but to our knowledge has never been recorded by any other
artist, especially a traditional artist, and is destined to become
another classic Shanneyganock song. This song is sure to evoke memories
from the baby boomer generation and expose the younger audience to this
great song.
Also featured are songs that have had limited exposure outside of the
Avalon Peninsula region. “Patty Ryan” by Dungarvan which was written
recently by a young fellow (Gerard Murphy) from Marystown and “My
Great Uncle Heb” by Rik Barron & Dave Panting are such examples.
As well, this package features some old classic songs. “Heave
Away”, “The Northern Lights Of Labrador”, “We’ll Rant &
We’ll Roar”, and some newer songs that are becoming classics:
“When We Was Boys”, “I Had But 50 Cents” and “Up At The
Cabin”. Also featured is the Land & Sea theme from Sandy Morris
“On The Beach”.
The diversity of the package is quite broad featuring artists ranging
from The Punters, Ray Lake, Shanneyganock, A Crowd Of Bold Sharemen,
Terry Penney, Dungarvan, The Fables, Barron & Panting, Wince Coles,
Sandy Morris, and RASA.
Selections on the CD: Shanneyganock - A Daisy A Day • The Fables -
Heave Away • A Crowd Of Bold Sharemen - When We Was Boys • Dungarvan
- Patty Ryan • The Punters - I Had But 50 Cents • Terry Penney -

Beach (Land and Sea Theme) • Shanneyganock - Twice Daily • RASA -
