Newfoundland Art - Marie-Jose Williams Art Gallery

Marie-José Mahé (Williams) was born in the French islands of Saint-Pierre et Miquelon. Her parents soon moved to Montréal where she grew up watching her father paint and draw. It fascinated her and gave her a taste for Art. Over the years, she often liked to draw but never got into painting until 1999 when she decided to take watercolour lessons with such great teachers as George Jarvis and international artist Sterling Edwards. She worked in many different mediums such as ink and graphite and began painting in acrylics loving the bright colours it offers. In 2008, she began the series ‘’The Little Fisherman’’. ‘’At the time, not many people painted in such bright colours here in NL and I wanted to create something new and semi-abstract with a touch of humour.’’ Her work has been featured in a couple of national television productions over the past few years and it can be found in galleries and private collections in many countries around the globe. Now a retired teacher, she lives in Paradise NL and continues to experiment with different art forms such as illustrating children’s books and playing with photography. ‘’I love variety and I hope to continue to create in many different fields’’.
